State-of-the-Art Facilities
KMCT School of Design has the finest facilities needed for a Design School. With a tasteful decor to inspire better design sensibilities in students and state-of-the-art equipment to help students realise their ideas into reality, the School has gone the extra mile to make it the finest Design School in Kerala. More facilities are being regularly added up to live up to its name.To experience them first-hand you are invited to schedule a visit on prior appointment.
Here is a glimpse of our current facilities.
Classrooms with a view
Large spacious classrooms with individual tables and chairs for students to customise their working environment, ample pinup boards to exhibit their daily assignments, audio-video facilities for presentations and watching short films related to their courses. Students also have locker facilities to keep their belongings safely and use them as and when needed.
Foundation workshop
Foundation students have an exclusive workshop to work with different materials and tools to start their explorations. Students work with Clay, Plaster of Paris, Thermocol, Foam sheets as part of their studies. Small machines and hand tools are provided here on request.
Resource Centre
The Resource Centre houses a Library with 600+ books covering every aspect of Design. Design-related Magazines, Journals and daily Newspapers are also available for students to keep abreast of latest trends and practices. Since our courses do not have text books, students have to refer books and magazines for their courses and assignments. They can also issue them for a limited time.
Tech Lab
Our Tech Lab is equipped with a few 3D Printers, Resin printers and VR headsets to give students a taste of technology early on in their design journey. Laser cutter, CNC Router, Graphic tablets and iPads with high-end computers allow students to turn their imagination into models.
Machines Lab
Desktop lathes, Cutting machines, Drilling machines, Hand drills, Sanding machine, Stone sander, Angle grinder and Welding machines, Bench saw, Compound Slide Mitre saw, Polisher, Thermocol cutter, Toolsets and a Paint booth with compressor and spray guns make our Machines Lab well-equipped for any task.
Photolab
A full-fledged air-conditioned Photography Lab with the latest mirrorless cameras, a wide range of lenses, studio lights, gimbals, 360 degree cameras, tripods and backdrops allow students to explore Photography as a medium of communication and also to document their work.
Print Lab
Our Print Lab has facilities for Offset printing, Letterpress printing, Screen printing, Sublimation printing, Lamination, Binding and Digital cutting. A variety of paper is available here and students are often found taking their prints for their assignments. A Hollander beater kept nearby converts used paper from office and classrooms sustainably into elegant handmade paper, which is used in the Print lab for various projects.
Clay Lab
Our Clay lab has an automated turn table and and Electric Kiln to make Terracotta and Ceramic objet d’arts. Students and faculty are found experimenting with materials, forms and finishes here.
Sound Lab
Our Sound lab has a sound-proof recording room with audio mixing facilities and state-of-the-art sound recording equipment useful in producing quality sound for Films and Animations made by students.
Stationery Store
Design students often need many materials for their work which cannot always be planned in advance. We have been thoughtful enough to provide our own Stationery store within the school meeting most of their requirements as and when needed instead of rushing to town daily..
Exhibition Room
Design survives on feedback and iterations. Our Exhibition room has ample space to display students’ works after every course and also at the end of the semester to invite feedback. Best works of students will also be collected and displayed here for visitors to the school get an idea about the course and curriculum.
Screening Room
Our air-conditioned mini theatre with excellent projection and surround-sound facilities is often used to screen documentaries and short films as part of courses. We conduct our Guest talks here. A FIlm club screens classic films regularly for the benefit of students after class hours.
Rooftop Canteen
Our rooftop canteen T-Stop is the place to go for a quick recharge. With fresh air and a 360 degree view of the surrounding hills, this is the place to relax, have some refreshments and connect with friends and faculty over a cup of tea or coffee. Snacks, soft drinks and light meals are also provided. Green potted plants and a fish pond adds to its ambience.
