Bavith Balakrishnan

Industrial designer, Writer

A versatile design professional with a strong foundation in Architecture and Industrial Design, he began his career as an intern at Videocon in 2012. He progressed to lead design teams at Entasis (retail design) and worked as a senior designer at Quetzel (furniture design) and Foley Designs (product design). Since 2016, he has operated his own firm, handling architecture and product design projects, with expertise spanning Retail Design, Product Design, and Architecture.

Desert cooler

A desert cooler designed for Videocon, replacing Turbo Cool DX9704 C, optimized for Indian conditions. The design reduces space occupancy by removing one face, cutting footprint and production costs. This also lowers maintenance with one less evaporative pad. The new design addresses previous issues, offering a compact, cost-effective solution.

Charging pod

A charging pod designed for Bangalore International Airport, inspired by the Touch Me Not plant. Created during his time at Foley Designs, its unique shape and simple form have made it a lasting fixture, still present at the airport even after 10 years. The design's elegance and functionality have contributed to its enduring presence.

The angle chair

A furniture crafted by traditional carpenters, where intersecting angles and planes create magic. The design innovatively alters traditional joinery methods, resulting in a stunning aesthetic. This unique blend of craftsmanship and design redefines the product's visual appeal, showcasing the beauty of skilled woodworking.

Ashapower mppt

Maximum Power Point Tracker designed and developed with consideration for sheet metal work limitations and optimized for minimal manufacturing cost. The product's form was deliberately crafted to achieve a unique, edgy aesthetic. This design approach resulted in a product that balances functionality with visual appeal.

POGS

An installation representing a personal experience during architecture training in Bangalore, where standing firm against barking dogs led to them stopping. This taught that fear resides within and can be overcome with determination. The installation embodies the idea that refusing to be frightened makes fear respond.

Writings

Writing has been his constant companion since 2010, with two published works: "Ellam" (short write-ups) and "Ivide Undayirunnavar" (short story), reflecting personal experiences. As a designer, storytelling's key in design and this design writing blend helps him to convey ideas effectively enriching the narrative approach.

Speech desk

A solid wood standing desk, designed for a school setting, breaks new ground in a traditionally stagnant category. With minimal parts and materials, the design prioritizes simplicity and functionality. Anthropometric dimensions are carefully integrated, ensuring ergonomic comfort for users.
